Sterling Fire Department Trying for Reopened Grants Previously Canceled by the Federal Government

Many Municipalities and organizations rely on grants to get things upgraded and accomplished.  With the current conditions from the Federal and State Governments, grant money sometimes does not come, even after the organization was told they would get the money.

This is what happened recently to the Rock Falls Fire Department.  They discovered that the grant for a training tower they were told they were getting, they would not be getting.

Sterling Deputy Fire Chief David Northcutt told the City Council that this grant had come available again.  He then informed them they are applying for the grant.  Northcutt also said there are rumors of other grants coming open again.

Northcutt said they have applied for a grant from Senator Dick Durban.  This would be used for getting new radios.  Northcutt said this would replace their non-Star Com Compliant radios.  He said this was a big one.
