Several months ago, the Dixon Park District held a meeting in regards to the Bow Hunting in the Meadows. This meeting included bow hunters, bicyclists, walkers and joggers. All wanted to be able to use the meadows.
At the time, the meadows was off limits to the public during hunting season. Following this meeting, the Meadows was opened to the public year round. The District wanted to see if the hunters and the citizens using the area could co-exist.
Following the recent hunting season, the hunters asked for some restrictions due to a few problems they had. Some on the Park Board, like member Keith Aurand said they needed more data before making a decision.
Executive Director Duane Long said the board really had one question to answer. Which was more important, the bow hunting program or letting the public free use of the Meadows.
Board President Rodney Frey said he had a problem with telling taxpayers they could not use something they pay for. The Park Board decided to wait one more year.
