The City of Sterling announced a call to 911 at 9:11am required the Sterling Fire Department, Rock Falls Fire Department, CGH EMS and Sterling Police Department be dispatched for a possible structure fire 501 Avenue B.
Milledgeville Fire Protection District and Dixon Rural Fire Protection District were dispatched as part of the Full Still assignment as well.
First arriving units were on scene within two minutes of being dispatched and found fire from the front of a vacant, multi-story residential home. They immediately started offensive operations.
The fire was brought under control quickly and a search for potential occupants was completed of the entire structure. No injuries to the first responders occurred.
Illinois State Fire Marshall, Sterling PD Detectives and ISP CSI are currently investigating the fire. Also assisting on the scene were Sterling Code Enforcement personnel.
