Lee County Hit With Two Financial Setbacks Making Things a Challenge for the Next Few Years

Some people may say to Lee County Officials you should not count your chickens before they hatch.

During the Lee County Board meeting Thursday evening, the members heard of a couple of financial setbacks that will make things a challenge, financially for the county.  Both of the setbacks are in the form of grants.

County Administrator Jeremy England said a Building Code Establishment Grant the county was to receive from FEMA has now been rescinded.

The other setback was a Case Management Grant the county was certain they would receive.  Finance Committee Chair, Jim Schielein said they were so positive they would get the grant they had put a software upgrade into motion, expecting to pay for it with the grant.

The County learned recently they would not be getting the grant.  Schielein said they are now in talks with the contractor about spreading out the cost over several years.

The total setback is between $1.8 and 1.9 million.  England said they need to be prepared for the uncertainty from the federal and State concerning funding.  He added they need to tighten their belts.
