When the Dixon Park District built the Water Wonderland and then the Facility Building, it was learned to everyone’s surprise the land was not in the city limits. This brought up the talk of the city annexing the meadows property.
During the Wednesday Park Board meeting, the board learned it would not be that easy of a task. Dixon Rural Fire Chief Dustin Dahlstrom spoke against the annexation.
Executive Director of the Park District Duane Long said the city provides services that they could not provide unless it is in the city limits.
Chief Dahlstrom said the Rural Department has the special equipment to handle things such as brush fires. He also said with city ordinances, the Park District would not be able to have controlled burns in the meadow, nor would the Primitive Camping site be allowed.
Park Board President Rodney Frey said all three sides need to discuss the issue more before any decision is made.
